Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please? We’re talking about Hollywood here! Thank you. HOLY things are about to be discussed here after all. Show some respect.
Nothing ever made us think of Hollywood as one of the holy places on Earth until our favorite celebrities started making a change in the world! I hardly doubt there’s anyone that has more influence than Hollywood.
How exactly are they making the world a better place? Rumor has it, our most adored actresses are about to appear to the Golden Globe Awards in a monochromatic style. Wearing all black. And by doing so, their goal is not to make a fashion statement. It’s about a much bigger cause.
Since we’re all obsessed with following the newest gossip in Hollywood, you’ve probably heard of the #MeToo movement. And who is to blame (or should I say praise) for starting this viral topic? Alyssa Milano.
How #MeToo movement begun
It was an ordinary day, just like any other for Alyssa Milano. Until she received a message from her friend, Charles Clymer. The message read: “ Suggested by a friend: if all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘me too’ as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.” Inspired by her friend’s words, Milano decided it was about time to take things into her own hands. And Hollywood went for it. Went for it BIG TIME! This is what our favourite ‘Charmed’ girl added to Charles’s words before posting it:
According to media worldwide, thousands of Hollywood women agreed to ‘go black’ for their appearance on the red carpet as a sign of support for women who went through sexual assaults. Reportedly, Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, and Jessica Chastain are wearing black for the greater good!
It was only a while ago when Harvey Weinstein was brought to light as one of the sexual assaulters creeping around Hollywood. Apparently, he used his position in Hollywood to abuse women. It’s unthinkable to ask for sexual favours and promise great careers in return. Luckily, there are those who raised their voice about this major issue. And you know what they say: Better late than never!
It only takes to make the first step to achieve great things. Once the news was out about Harvey Weinstein- Kevin Spacey, Dustin Hoffman, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, Louis CK also made the list. A list nobody should be proud to be a part of.
Within a short period of time, the #MeToo movement took the world. Many women like Lady Gaga, Reese Witherspoon, Emily Rataykowsky, Ellen DeGeneres came out as victims of abuse. They are not doing it for publicity. Their goal is to show to every single woman that this matter should be discussed and thus punished! Never be afraid to speak up.
I really can’t tell what we are the most excited about. Of course, we are eager to see how Hollywood’s best will look in black. But what we love even more is the story behind!
