Thanks to the new Instagram algorithm it is harder to gain new followers in 2018 than it was last year. I say it is hard, but definitely not impossible. Before this new algorithm hit the scene, the things were more apparent than they are nowadays. You need to post interesting and engaging content, consistently and with equal frequency. With these new rules, there are new Instagram options that can help you. The tips I have prepared will help you gain more real (not fake) followers, have better engagement and reach. Let’s start.


Switch to Business Profile

First things, first. You need to change your profile to a business one. This will give you more options for tracking your success, and most of all it will provide you access to Instagram Insights. Contact button and ability to promote your posts are some of the biggest perks of having a business profile. Tracking your success, reach, and engagement is very valuable for your business. If you had read some of my previous Instagram guides, then you have heard about famous ‘swipe up’ button (if you have more than 10k followers).


Brand New Option: Stories Highlights

The stories highlight feature is on for some time now. It is excellent and valuable for turning your visitors into followers. As I have already mentioned it before in the post about choosing your aesthetics, it is essential for your profile to look impeccable. Highlighting your stories can help you achieve and attract more followers from your stories. When you put them in highlight sections, the stories are not time-lined. They are on your profile until you decide the opposite. Use these new Instagram options as a showcase for your products or tips and guides for your followers.


Add Location and Hashtag Stickers to Reach More People

Since the appearance of Instagram Stories, they beat all other ways of marketing. If you are still not using stories for your business marketing, then you are making a big mistake. Let’s set that right. With the addition of location and hashtag stickers that you can add to your stories, now you have the opportunity to gain more followers and to get more profile views. For example, if you post a photo from a coffee shop in Paris, you should tag your location and add a hashtag so other people that are searching for that hashtag can see it. Encourage your followers to add the specific hashtag for your business. In that way, other people can look at all photos at one place.


Start an Instagram Live Section

It seems that Stories took over 2017. However, according to some people, live videos will be THE thing to do on Instagram in 2018. Not many businesses opt for this type of engagement with their followers. You can now search for top live videos that appear on the left corner of the Explore page. These videos have the most significant amount of viewers and engagement. And this can be the main reason for you to engage with your followers and start a live q&a section.
