Hedvig Palm never meant to become a model. Her career started slowly and reluctantly at the age of fifteen when she was discovered in Stockholm. The first time she was approached by someone who wanted to represent her, she wasn’t interested, but agents kept coming at her. A year after she was first approached, she ran into the same person who discovered her that first time, and he once again tried to sign her. She said okay and had a test shoot that she kept a secret from all of her friends.
Because school was, and always has been, Palm’s top priority, her career was a slow roller. “The first few months, I did nothing,” she recalls. “… just a few editorials on the weekend.” She made her runway debut at the fall 2011 couture shows and walked for Valentino, Bouchra Jarrar, and Maison Rabih Kayrouz, among others. Now she is an international sensation who works worldwide and is represented by top agency NEXT Management.
Within a year of her start, Hedvig Palm landed a coveted spot in Louis Vuitton’s fall campaign, along with a large number of editorial spreads in Love Magazine, Vogue Italia, British Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar.
Now, with school out of the way, Hedvig Palm walks in as many as 47 shows every season and her all-star roster includes design houses such as Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Prada, Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten, Oscar de la Renta, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Jonathan Saunders, Alexander Wang, Chanel, Valentino, J.W. Anderson, Balenciaga, and Jil Sander.
Despite her couture-oriented career, Palm describes her style as casual and enjoys making and wearing her own clothing. Her favorite designer is Prada, but her favorite piece of clothing is a simple summer dress with red flowers that her mother sewed for her.
Though Hedvig Palm currently resides in a model apartment in Manhattan, Palm’s favorite place to be is her country home in Sweden, where she feels her most free and close to nature. Her love of music follows her all the way to the big city where she spends her spare time going to museums and playing the cello. She loves to eat fresh fruit and enjoys going on long walks through pretty landscapes.
Hedvig Palm’s love of artistic beauty is reflected in her Instagram feed, which has over 16 thousand followers. She loves posting photographs of natural landscapes, art exhibitions, yummy all-natural food, fashion editorials, and all-natural selfies. She has an eye for detail and seems to try and capture what may go unnoticed to a casual observer. Her own personal style is also reflected. She dresses in mostly clothing that features clean lines, basic pieces, and an array of bright, primary colors.
Her advice to young models is “To be nice. But also to be confident and remember who you are.” Despite accomplishing a lot in her career, Hedvig Palm still has a number of lofty goals and ambitions including scoring a Vogue Italia cover, working with world-renown photographers, and working in Africa where she would like to do a shoot that included lions and giraffes.
