We have to be honest. Lots of things are way easier than they used to be before. Everything we need is just a click away. Same goes for modeling. Nowadays, anyone can be a model. You just have to put in the effort and use the tools that the 21st century offers us. One of the tools being our favorite app, Instagram! We’ve already shown you thousands of tricks how to increase your Instagram influence. And we will continue to do so until you achieve your dreams of becoming a supermodel. To make you appreciate Instagram even more, in this article we will talk about modeling in the era before Instagram i.e. THE DARK AGES.

Cindy Crawford

There is not a single soul in this world that hasn’t heard this name. Whether you’re into modeling or not, you damn sure know who Cindy Crawford is. Everybody knows her for the supermodel that she is. But did you know that she could have been a chemical engineer? If she didn’t drop out from college, the modeling world wouldn’t be the same as it is now. After all, she helped shape it!

How did she manage to build her way up? She certainly didn’t have the help of Instagram. In her junior year, Crawford helped a local photographer who was photographing college girls to be featured in the DeKalb Nite Weekly. What Cindy didn’t know at the time, was that the photographer was actually helping her. After being featured on the cover of the magazine, she felt encouraged to pursue a modeling career. She went for the Elite Model Management’s Look of the Year contest and was the runner-up. Of course, Elite Model Management in Chicago started representing her. And the rest is history!

After being praised by thousands of magazines as the sexiest and prettiest creature that ever walked this earth, Cindy Crawford left modeling in 2000.

Janice Dickinson

Janice Dickinson is often referred to as the first supermodel. She dominated the runways, covers, and has been the face of ad campaigns for world-renowned brands. Basically, every major name in the fashion and beauty industry back in the 1970s and 1980s wanted a piece of Janice!

Dickinson had a rough childhood and nobody believed that she’ll make it in this world of beauty and glam. She won the “Miss High Fashion Model” national competition and moved to New York to prove everybody wrong. She belonged to that world. But still, she was turned down plenty of times by modeling agents. Apparently, she was ‘much too ethnic’. Then one day, she got a call. A famous fashion photographer was interested in giving her a chance. Soon after the first photo shoot, Janice Dickinson started making up to $2,000 per day! And that was just the beginning.
